voicechat.gg ("we", "us", "our") operates the voicechat.gg app. This policy describes what we collect, why, and who we share it with. For the rules of using the Service, see our Terms of Service.
Information we collect
- Account information: username, display name, profile image (if you set one), and password (hashed, never stored in plain text).
- Email address: used to verify your account, recover your username or password, and contact you about your account.
- Voice messages: audio recordings you send through the app.
- Usage data: channels you participate in, messages you send and receive, friend connections.
- Device information: push notification tokens for delivering notifications to your device.
- Log data: IP address and browser/device user agent at signup and login, kept for security and abuse prevention.
- Diagnostics: usage events and crash reports tied to your account, used to improve the app.
How we use your information
- To operate the voice messaging service and deliver your messages to recipients.
- To send push notifications about new messages, friend requests, and channel invites.
- To authenticate your account and keep your session secure.
- To verify your email and contact you about your account.
- To detect and prevent abuse, fraud, and security incidents.
- To diagnose crashes and understand how the app is used.
Service providers
We don't sell your data. We share it with third-party service providers as needed to operate the app: Amazon Web Services, MongoDB Atlas, Vercel, Mixpanel, Sentry, Apple Push Notification Service, and Google Firebase Cloud Messaging.
In-app sharing
Voice messages are only accessible to members of the channel they were sent to. Your username and display name are visible to other users you interact with.
Blocking and reporting
When you block or report another user, we keep a record of the action so we can enforce our community rules.
Data retention and deletion
Your account and voice messages are retained as long as your account is active. You can permanently delete your account and all associated data from inside the app: open your profile, tap the three-dot menu, and choose "delete my account." If you no longer have the app installed, see data requests for how to ask.
Microphone access
The app requires microphone access to record voice messages. The microphone is only active when you actively record a message and is never accessed in the background. We do not analyze voice messages for biometric identification.
Eligibility
voicechat.gg is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Your rights
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time by contacting us.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top reflects when changes were made. Material changes will be announced in the app.
